Season’s grand conclusion

LAST week was the final Saturday for junior tennis, with the teams' grand final held and trophies presented. After a whole season of hard work and dedication, all the players got together for one last round of matches and they didn't disappoint.

The grand final was played off between Laver and Newcombe. Both teams brought their A-game to make some very interesting tennis.

Cooper Angus (Laver) and Sunny Handy (Newcombe) went head-to-head as their teams' respective Number 1s.

Intense rallies led to two tiebreakers which, unfortunately for Handy, were won by Angus.

The sportsmanship and skill showed by both players was commendable.

The remaining matches played were tilted in Team Laver's favour despite the battle that Newcombe put up.

Congratulations to Cooper Angus, Holly Hogan, Flynn Angus, Lily Stacey, Lleyton McClean and Noah McCaig for their great commitment and teamwork for Laver.

The final ladder for the year was, beginning with the winners, Laver, Newcombe, Rosewall, Rafter, Roche, Goolagong, Hoad and Court.

Also, for the team event the best players were chosen for each rank. In Number 6 position Luke Rodgers was awarded for his excellent attendance and flexibility into higher rankings and other teams.

He won 87 percent of his singles matches and 59 percent of his doubles.
