A NEW bottle shop has been proposed for Swan Hill, with the developer claiming there will be minimal impact on existing licensed premises in Swan Hill.
The proposal is to build a drive-thru liquor store on 7 Whittaker Street, located on the southern end of town, close to the Murray Valley Highway.
If approved, the bottle shop will be the ninth business in Swan Hill to source take-away liquor, joining two BWS stores, two Swan Hill Bottle-O stores, Liquorland, Premix King, Celebrations and Aldi Liquor.
The block of land is approximately 4000 square metres in size and was zoned as a "public use zone," previously home to the Powercor depot in the region.
South of the block is the 24-hour Swan Hill Police Station and directly north of the block is the Sun Centre Motel and residential homes.
The application for development has been submitted by a local Swan hill businessman, who wished to remain anonymous, and is currently in advertisement phase at the Swan Hill Rural City Council.
The businessman stated in the proposal he wants to "create an ongoing and sustainable business for the community."
