Season to be swooped as magpies breed

AS Swan Hill embraces the first rays of spring sunshine, residents also need to be on the lookout for another, less welcome arrival.

Magpies traditionally become "highly aggressive" during breeding season, from late August to mid-October, swooping passers-by.

Attacks begin as the eggs hatch, increase in frequency and severity as the chicks grow, and tail off as the chicks leave the nest.
