WHEN Ultima residents Greg and Evelyn Keyes survived the 2007 Kangaroo Island bushfires, they made a pact.

Once things returned to "normal", they would resign as residential managers of Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on the island, and build on Mr Keyes' land in Ultima.
