Testing more important than ever

PEOPLE with any symptoms have been urged to be tested for COVID-19.

“While we have not had a confirmed positive case in our community for some time, particularly as we begin to move around the state, the importance of testing cannot be overstated. We need to be able to quickly identify any cases to be able to effectively contact trace and limit the spread as much as possible,” Swan Hill District Health (SHDH) CEO Peter Abraham said.

“If you have any symptoms, no matter how mild, please present for testing and stay home until you get your results.

“If anything, testing is now even more important than before when we were all mostly staying home and not interacting with other people.

“Now that we’re moving around, we’re able to see other people, that’s where we need people to be hypervigilant and not hesitate if they develop even mild symptoms.”

Mr Abraham said the clinic currently tested between 10-12 people per day.

Along with testing, SHDH is also reminding the community to remember to practice good hand hygiene, physical distancing (staying 1.5m away from those you don’t live with) and wearing a mask whenever you leave home.

“Just because the pub is open doesn’t mean we can forget all the safety precautions we need to be practicing so that we can live with this virus,” Mr Abraham warned.

“Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, keep your distance and wear a mask.”

SHDH also encourage people to download the COVID-Safe app if they haven’t already done so.

The SHDH acute respiratory assessment clinic is located at 28 High Street, Swan Hill and is currently open 10am-1pm Monday-Friday.

Appointments are required and can be booked online.
