REMEMBERED as a selfless man of integrity with a passion for social justice, former Victorian Premier John Cain was farewelled at a state memorial service in Melbourne on Monday.

As Victoria's 41st Premier, Mr Cain led the state from 1982 to 1990 and is credited with introducing a raft of reforms that transformed the state.

He died in December, aged 88.
