VICTORIA Police is pleased with the uptake of the Police Assistance Line (PAL) and Online Reporting (OLR) tools in Mallee areas, despite well under half of reports coming through the new services.

The new tools were officially launched on July 1 last year as a way to free up triple zero for emergencies, allowing non-urgent matters to be triaged by call takers based at a contact centre in B
