Duo face court over driving with drugs in system

Double whammy

A MAN has been caught speeding and driving with drugs in his system while travelling to pick up his female friend who earlier had also tested positive to a drug test while behind the wheel.

Swan Hill police said during the very early hours of Saturday, police in Ouyen intercepted a 41-year-old female from Nyah, who underwent a roadside drug test.

As a result of an alleged positive result, the female was prohibited from driving and her male friend drove from Mildura to pick her up.

Unfortunately for him, the 40-year-old male was detected travelling at 166km/h to collect her, and also tested positive to drugs.

“Now two drug effected drivers have a court date to meet the local magistrate, and are without a car for the next 30 days while it is impounded,” police said.

“Police drug and alcohol testing will continue to target substance effected drivers to keep other road users safe on our roads.”

Handbag grabbed from hotel

POLICE are investigating after a woman had her handbag allegedly stolen from a licensed venue at Lake Boga earlier this month.

On September 6 about 9.30pm, a male offender entered the outside garden bar area of the Lake Boga Hotel.

The hotel was closed and staff were conducting a stocktake.

A staff member had left her handbag on a table in this area.

The male, described as stocky, in his 30s, receding hairline and wearing a hi-vis yellow jumper has stolen this handbag.

Man lurking in Robinvale backyard

A MAN has allegedly been lurking in the backyard of a Robinvale address on multiple occasions.

“Over the last couple of months it appears that a male person has been visiting the backyard of a George Street address,” a police spokesperson said.

It appears nothing has been stolen.

“We ask the public to report any suspicious persons walking about the streets of Robinvale,” they added.
