AN increasing number of primary school students in Victoria are leaving grade six with water safety skills, including the ability to swim 50 metres.

Minister for Education James Merlino said last year, 26,000 Victorian water safety certificates (VWSC) were awarded to students, an increase from 6500 in 2018.
