Free parking to remain in Swan Hill CBD until August

SWAN Hill Rural City Council says it will be extending a parking meters switch off following the reintroduction of COVID-19 restrictions.

Mayor Bill Moar said in light of some restrictions being reintroduced this week, council would not switch parking meters back on at this stage.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, council switched off parking meters on March 30.

"Parking meters will remain off until August 1 and we will continue to monitor the situation" he said.

Cr Moar said that while payment is not required for meters, parking signage must still be followed.

"Despite our meters being switched off, parking time limits and restrictions still apply.," he said.

"We must ensure we still have parking turnover so that customers can easily visit local businesses and access the services they need."

Council will be issuing fines to people that are not following parking signage.
