MALLEE kangaroos will be harvested and turned into pet food as part of a new state government strategy which was launched on Tuesday.

The Kangaroo Harvesting Program (KHP) aims to help manage the state's exploding kangaroo population and minimise waste by allowing accredited shooters to kill them and have their carcasses processed for pet food by licensed businesses.
