Hitting back at union calls for working holiday visa to be axed

A TOUGH ban on backpackers is not the solution to worker exploitation across the horticulture sector, according to agriculture representatives, who hit back at several unions on Tuesday after calls to have the working holiday visa axed.

In a submission to a federal review of the farm workforce, the union-based Retail Supply Chain Alliance stated the backpacker program was rife with worker exploitation and Australian farmers needed to instead hire young people in regional and rural areas for harvest jobs.
