Emergency housing for Balranald

EMERGENCY housing will be established in Balranald after a donation from the company behind temporary accommodation for solar farm workers.

QANTAC, who run the temporary accommodation in Balranald for Sunraysia Solar Farm workers, has donated a demountable cabin.

The cabin will be installed at Balranald Caravan Park.

But, with the infrastructure not being suitable for emergency use, Balranald Shire Council general manager Michael Kitzelmann said the cabin would be used for normal operation.

"Then one of the existing family cabins will be dedicated for emergency housing," Mr Kitzelmann said.

Mr Kitzelmann said the donated demountable cabin comprised four single bedrooms with ensuite, with plans to add a front balcony.

"So it's appealing to the eye, like a mini courtyard outside each room," Mr Kitzelmann said.

"And one of the older besser brick cabins, which is in the caravan park with a kitchen and bathroom in it, will be made available for emergency accommodation requirements.

"We have a very high demand for single person accommodation at the caravan park, and that'll suit that requirement."
