ANZAC day services

TOWNS across the Balranald region will pause on Thursday morning, as part of three Anzac Day services.

Balranald's service will take place between 10:30am and 11:30am, at the town's Cenotaph before congregants make their way to the Balranald District Ex-Servicemen's Memorial Club.

A dawn service will be held from 6am in Kyalite. Euston will hold their march from 8am which will be attended by Balranald Shire Council general manager Craig Bennett.

Mr Bennett said the opportunity to attend the local service on Anzac Day "means everything" to him.

"I encourage everyone to get along to a service wherever they are," he said.

"Make sure that you are acknowledging those who lost their lives, and those who are still alive can understand how important they are to us as a nation.

"I think it’s really important for us to acknowledge that the people that fought and sacrificed their lives in these wars are the reason why we are here today.

"It's extremely important for us to remember the dead.

"At the moment, we also need to be making sure that we are acknowledging those who are currently serving."

Mr Bennett said he was pleased "to see the number of young people who come out to these services".

"Our younger generation get it just as much as some of the older generations, and it’s so important for them to understand the meaning behind Anzac Day," he said.

"They might not know a lot about some of these wars, but they understand the importance of continuing the tradition in acknowledging the sacrifice made for us."
