New medical school for Mallee

SWAN Hill District Health (SHDH) is partnering with Charles Sturt University (CSU) to open a new clinical school in Swan Hill.

The first cohort of CSU students will be welcomed at the launch of the Mallee Clinical School on June 14.

"These students will be at the forefront of an exciting new initiative in undergraduate teaching where rural health placements will be the primary focus for their three years ofclinical training," local doctor, Associate Professor Ernan Hession, said.

"This program is pivotal to the improvement of rural healthcare services and will play a significant role in addressing the long-term shortages of general practitioners in our region."

The community is invited to the launch on June 14 at 11.30am at Swan Hill Anglican Church Hall, 46 Splatt Street.

CSU Dean School of Rural Medicine Professor Lesley Forster AM will be joining the historic milestone.
