Letting loose of their money

"OUTSTANDING" community spirit was showcased at the Lake Boga Commercial Hotel last weekend, when $5269 was raised for local Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers.

Publican Honey Richmond said the hotel was thrilled with the weekend's proceedings and how well the entire community pulled together.

"It went really, really well," Ms Richmond told The Guardian.

"We would have had at least 150 people at the pub for the karaoke on Saturday night.

"It was such an amazing community effort and we couldn't have done it without the Partisans group and the generosity of the sponsors who donated the amazing prizes and auction items."

Items up for auction included a wood heater with wood pellet and slate hearth, a six by four metre single axle trailer, GPS car tracker and fridge freezer.

The charity weekend was organised by Mark Mitchell, from Partisans Australia, as a way of saying thanks to volunteer firefighters.

"In the past, we have organised a charity night for the returned servicemen, but this time we wanted to extend it to the first responders," Mr Mitchell told The Guardian.

"All the volunteers have given up their time and don't get any support from the government, so this is our way of saying thanks and to give them a bit of support."

Lake Boga CFA third lieutenant Brett Theobald said the money raised across the weekend would go towards funding extra equipment at Lake Boga.

"After seeing how devastating the impact of fires can be, it will be great to have the right equipment here at the brigade so we can take it with us next time," Mr Theobald said.

Ms Richmond thanked everyone who contributed to the weekend and "went that extra mile".

"A massive thank you to the whole community and to our amazing staff," she said.

"It was a huge weekend and a great response to a really good cause.

"We appreciate all the hard work, sacrifice and dedication of our local CFA boys and girls and we know the money will be put to good use."
