Jockey Liam Riordan breaks collarbone in fall

Jockey Liam Riordan has suffered a fractured collarbone and a bruised lung after being involved in a fall in race four at the Swan Hill race meeting on Monday.

Riordan fell from the fourth-paced Incarndine a split second after crossing the line in the Top Tote Plus Maiden Plate (1600m).

The finish to the $23,000 race was a rough affair with horses bumping on several occasions in the last 75m before Riordan’s mount clipped heels and fell.

The meeting was halted whilst the young jockey was transported to hospital.

Riordan said on his Twitter account yesterday “Verdict: Displaced clavicle which requires surgery tomorrow (April 1).

So appreciative of the support around me and thanks again for all the calls and messages that are still coming through.

Will be back bigger and better but for now will make the most of these sleep ins”.

Logan McNeil was also dislodged from his mount Devega Rouge in the same race.

McNeil was unhurt as were both horses involved in the incidents.
