TUF kids get cherished win

HARD work and fierce determination reaped a cherished reward for a group of young local cricketers at the weekend.

Already, 2014/15 has been a summer of struggle for Ultima TUF and the RooDogs' Under 14s side has struggled around the bottom of the Swan Hill District Cricket Association ladder this season.

But, a little over two seasons since UTUF re-established its junior program and 12 months since they entered an Under 14s team, the young side has enjoyed a rare win.

Batting first against Woorinen at Alan Garden Memorial Reserve, Ultima TUF put together 150 for the loss of five wickets. Kade Benfield (37) and Guri Khangura (43) were particularly influential with the bat for the RooDogs.

In reply, Woorinen was well-served by Hayden Glare with 33 and Lachy Rushton with 24, but was unable to build enough momentum to pass UTUF's total.
