Ultimate farewell from Ultima

A SLICE of the region’s history came to a standstill at the end of 2023 when Ultima Primary School bid farewell to its students for one final time.

The school had a rich history within the region, having served the township since 1902.

Once part of a thriving town situated at the end of the railway line, Ultima Primary School had around 130 students in the 1930s.

The school survived two world wars, the Great Depression and numerous droughts, floods and plagues, but dwindling enrollments resulted in its closure.

Despite this, the school holds some very fond memories for those who attended or worked there over the years.

The Guardian journalist Michelle Brady shares some of their stories…

Students supported with one on one learning

Principal loved working with students and families
