AFTER more than 200 kilometres on his feet through the harsh Mallee, The Police Association of Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt will arrive in Swan Hill today as part of the Head to Head fundraising walk.
Community members are invited to join officers at the local station from 11am for a morning tea to welcome and encourage Sergeant Wayne Gatt for his efforts so far and help raise money for the walk to raise awareness of police mental health.
Sgt Gatt set off from Mildura last Monday, walking 500km through the Mallee and northern Victoria before meeting Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton halfway at Wangaratta.
CC Ashton began his leg of the journey from Mallacoota and is expected to meet head-to-head with Sgt Gatt on October 23.
His arrival to the border regional city comes after Nationals Leader Peter Walsh and Opposition Leader Matthew Guy gave Sgt Gatt an impromptu visit on the Murray Valley Highway at Nyah on Monday, when the leaders were in Swan Hill to announce their hospital funding commitment.
