THE Mallee fire danger period will commence two weeks early this year with the region facing an "above average season".
Restrictions come in force at 1am on October 15 for CFA District 18, which covers Swan Hill, Mildura, Buloke, Yarriambiack and Gannawarra council areas.
CFA District 18 operations manager John Breaks announced the early start to the fire season last Thursday and warned firefighters would be facing an above average and extended fire season.
"Locally, it will probably be a little longer than normal and across the whole state it will definitely be longer than normal," he said.
"We had parts of Gippsland start their fire danger period a couple of weeks ago already, the earliest on record, for us we are a week or two ahead but a lot of the data is showing it is going to be extended through to March or April next year."
