The head of the region's waste and resource recovery group has welcomed the state government's plans to ban all plastic shopping bags from next year, but said some industries could struggle. 

Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group executive officer Karen Fazzani said the ban would have a positive impact on the environment.

Public consultation by the Victorian Government found 96 per cent of more than 8000 public submissions supported the ban.

Woolworths banned single-use plastic bags on June 20, while Coles implemented the ban on July 1. 

The feedback will be used to develop a plastic pollution plan to reduce other types of plastic contaminants in our environment.
