EDEN Zanker has topped off a dream year by being awarded the Swan Hill Rural City Council Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year.
Ms Zanker was recognised for her outstanding sporting achievements with special regard to AFL football.
In the announcement of her win, she was described as a remarkable young woman with a passion for football.
While completing her Higher School Certificate at Tooleybuc Central School she also travelled the country playing AFL.
In October 2017 she was selected at pick six for the Melbourne Football Club's AFLW team.
Prior to that she had been selected in the Under 18 All Australian Football Team, the Under-18 Country Football Team and the Under-18 Bendigo Pioneers Women's Football Team.
She won the local best and fairest award in the Central Murray Football Netball League as an Under-17 player in 2015.
Ms Zanker's maturity and poise when speaking with the media and representing her community was also noted as a reason for her selection as this year's recipient.
She was also a leader within her school community as school captain and supporting her fellow students by taking a role on the Student Representative Council.
Ms Zanker was unable to accept her award in person as she had football commitments in Melbourne and typical of her dedication did not want to risk not being selected for a game in February.
She returned home on Saturday to receive her award.
