Moontree ... one of a bevy of stores along the village’s main street.

Leura in the Blue Mountains will be transformed into a German-style Yuletide village in December, with the National-Trust-certified shopping strip coming alive with lights and decorations.

The boutique retail destination, located a 90-minute drive west of Sydney, will host a month-long program of events to position itself as a Christmas experience.

Charming shops will sparkle with fairy lights and decorations, carollers will roam past cafes and restaurants, Santa and his elves will spread Christmas cheer, and children can join workshops to prepare for a beautiful evening lantern procession beside the famous blossom trees.

Christmas in Leura will begin on December 1 when the lights on a five-metre-tall Christmas tree are turned on.

The program also includes a series of $10 workshops for children at Leura Garage, where children can enjoy fresh healthy snacks as they decorate lanterns imported from Germany (bookings essential at www.leuragarage.com.au/lantern). The workshop series will culminate in the Christmas Lantern Parade on December 15.
