Spring - the perfect time for a garage sale

Spring has sprung and with the change of season comes the promise of great weather, open spaces and, hopefully, a clean house.

If you’re like me, you’ll be keen to get the spring cleaning over and done with so you don’t have to think about it again for at least another 12 months.

Of course that big clean up often means we have to deal with that hoarding tendency most of us possess.

But what to do with the items you’ve collected over the year that aren’t precious enough to keep but are too good to throw away?

Enter the garage sale.

I love garage sales for at least two reasons.

First, you can make some decent cash from them and secondly, it’s a great way to meet your neighbours!

I’m all about selling the experience as well as items, so to encourage people to stick around for longer, I create a friendly environment.

You might like to have some music playing, offer free drinks and cookies and chat with the buyers.

I’ve made a few friends over the years from my garage sales and, at the bare minimum, now know my neighbours enough to say hello or stop and chat when I pass them on the street.

This year I’ve registered mine on garagesaletrail.com.au and nabo.com.au.

By doing so, I’m ensuring that my neighbours have all the information on my garage sale and know exactly what I’m selling and where.

Considering one yourself?

Be ready for hagglers, make sure your items are sellable and not just junk, have correct change if possible and, most of all, have a good time!

It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and earn some extra dollars for the silly season that’s ahead.
