Former Swan Hill mayor Gary Norton is re-contesting the North West region on the board of the peak body for local government in Victoria.
The Murray Mallee Ward councillor has been council's Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) delegate since 2003, the same year he was first elected onto council, and a MAV board member for two terms.
Nominations for MAV president and board elections closed last week with five councillors contesting the presidency ahead of the March 3 election.
The MAV advocates local government interests, build the capacity of Victorian councils, facilitate networks and initiate policy development and advice.
Cr Norton will be opposed by Northern Grampians Shire councillor Murray Emerson, who has just completed two terms as mayor.
