A MURRAWEE farmer got the shock of his life when he saw the remains of a blind snake hanging in the web of a redback spider.
Trevor Hopkins, who made the discovery in his shed, said the sight startled him especially given he had lost a close family member to snake bite.
Upon further inspection, he found the young snake was dead with webbing around its head.
He eventually removed both animals to make sure he could use his shed later but said it was a surreal scene.
"The whole snake was above the ground in the web," he told The Guardian.
"There was webbing around the head in particular. I gave it a good examination before I went and grabbed my camera.
"I have never seen anything like it. It was one of the largest spiders I have ever seen.
"It's a pretty disturbing sight but fascinating nonetheless."
Redback spiders are known to remove their prey off the ground with their web before feeding at their leisure.
