CURLEWIS had a comfortable win over McCrae in Swan Hill pennant tennis on Saturday.
The win was set up with a strong showing in the men's sets for Curlewis, with a 14 game break established.
The tone was set with two strong wins first up, with Sam Sheppard and Richard Wardle claiming a straightforward 8-2 win over Craig Bath and Stuart McGregor, and Dwayne Grey and Caleb Beggs downing Brett Pekin and Tony Evans with the same score.
The women's sets were closer, with only three games separating Curlewis from McCrae.
Wendy Owen and Pam Austerberry led the fight-back for McCrae with an exciting 8-6 win over Narelle Maeder and Hayley Siddons.
The mixed was similarly close, with Curlewis winning the section by eight games over McCrae.
But the damage had been done for McCrae, with Curlewis finishing the day 25 games on top.
After close sets in the men's and women's sections, Beveridge pulled away in the mixed sets, eventually having a strong win over Campbell by 21 games.
The men's sets proved exciting, with only one game separating the lot.
The standard of play was high, with Lachlan and Max Carroll going down 8-7 to Daniel Gardner and Chris Nalder.
The result was reversed in the second set with Trevor Holt and Tim Gleeson getting up over Rick Plant and Kieran Mays.
The women's section also came down to the barest of margins, with just one game separating the sides.
Like in the men's, the first set was decided in a tiebreaker, with Angela Best and Mel Snyder going down to Vicki Nalder and Liz Free 8-7.
Three sets proved crucial in the mixed section.
Vaughan Catton and Liz Free claimed a big 8-1 win over Colin Free and Jan Butcher.
John Brookshaw and Melanie Cunning had an easy 8-0 win over Michael Shean and Caitlin Wright, with Derek MacFarlane and Kieran Mays putting the final nail in Campbell's coffin with an 8-1 win over Darren Barnes and Leonie Phelan.
In the final match up, McCallum had a 16 game win over Gray.
Three games separated the sides in the men's section, with Christian Starr and Brad Kelly downing Matt Witney and Brendan Angus 8-6.
Andrew Sartori and Alan Thompson hit back for Gray with an 8-5 victory over Marcus McCaig and Zac Rundell-Gordon.
The women's sets saw McCallum further its advantage, with a five game difference between the two sides.
Natalie Plant and Rhonda Wood of McCallum had an exciting 8-7 win over Ros McKenzie and Christine Hogan.
McCallum was again too strong in the mixed sets, with an eight game break separating the two in that section.
