LARGE flows of water are being released from the Menindee Lakes to make way for the huge flows approaching that area.
The move has brought on a big run of fish at Menindee, where large numbers of yellowbelly were biting last weekend.
Some anglers landed over 100 fish with most being caught on bait.
There has been some action on lures in the swirling water around the weirs and piers.
This action is likely to continue for several weeks.
Remember bag limits do apply in New South Wales, along with possession limits.
When the yellas are biting like this at the regulators, the Murray cod are generally also about and can be caught on bait in the stiller water.
Back home in the Murray, most anglers have been finding a few yellowbelly to be back on the bite, along with plenty of carp.
Lake Charm is still fishing well, along with a few fish at Kangaroo and Boga.
Recent fishing competitions held at Nyah and Swan Hill have been successful with anglers at both competitions landing a good lot of yellas.
At the Swan Hill event one legal-sized Murray cod was caught.
With more competitions coming up, there will be a good indication of what fish are about.
The Moulamein comp should see a few cod landed if the weather is good.
Lure fishing for cod continues to be productive in the Murray River above Lake Mulwala, where plenty of big fish have been landed in the last few weeks.
Although the summer has not been really hot, plenty of rain earlier on has generated good growth in the bush and the risk of fire is great.
Extra care is needed with fire-prevention and make sure if you do have a camp fire that it is completely out and cold before you leave.
