Regatta sets sail

11 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
LAKE Boga will host the Sunraysia Inter-Club Regatta this weekend.

Running for more than 30 years, the regatta will feature two Mildura-based clubs as well as Lake Boga Yacht Club members.

It is the first time in several years the event has been held at Boga.

Racing will start at midday Saturday and finish Sunday afternoon, with two races each day.

Lake Boga Yacht Club committee member Ian Vernon said the event would see individual results contribute to a team total.

"It's a teams type event and with individual results," he said.

Vernon said the event was just one on a jam-packed calendar for the yacht club.

The club will host the Victorian state titles for Mosquito and Arrow classes on the long weekend in March, before again preparing for a big Easter regatta.

Since water returned to the lake, the yacht club has grown to 25 family memberships.

Vernon said the club received plenty of interest from passers-by and locals.

"A lot come down, a lot off the road -- we invite people to join us for the day or forever," he said.

"It's very much a family-friendly club."

Anyone interested in learning more about sailing was welcome to visit the club during this weekend's regatta, Vernon said.
