THE Murray Valley Bowls Division's ladies Champion of Champions contest was held at Swan Hill Bowls Club last Thursday.
Eight clubs were represented, with bowlers playing first to 25 shots.
With thunder in the distance, a wet day was thought to be on the cards, but only a small amount of rain fell early.
In the first draw Swan Hill's Belle Willox took on Margaret Jewson from Murray Downs, Racecourse's Mary Hooper taking on Tooleybuc's Lois Lockhart, Heather Mitchell from Balranald playing Moulamein's Doreen Weaver and Fay Devereux from Nyah District up against Mary Gibson of Manangatang.
Jewson started her game with a win on eight of the first 15 ends, to lead 16 shots to seven.
Another nine ends were played with Jewson eventually taking out the win 25 to 14.
Lois Lockhart played well against Mary Hooper to lead 16 shots to seven after 14 ends.
Lockhart eventually survived a fightback from Hooper to win 25 shots to 18.
The match between Heather Mitchell and Doreen Weaver was close as expected, with Mitchell taking out the win 25 shots to 19.
Play was even initially between Fay Devereux and Mary Gibson, until Devereux gained a lead and after 14 ends led 14 to 10.
Gibson was not to be outdone, however, and on the 19th end the score was locked at 16 all.
It was all Devereux from then on, though, with the Nyah District bowler eventually winning 25 to 16.
The semi-finals saw Margaret Jewson taking on Lois Lockhart and Heather Mitchell playing Fay Devereux.
Devereux led by 10 shots after 13 ends, 15/5.
Devereux won seven of the next 13 ends to come out the winner 25/15.
In the other semi-final Lois Lockhart and Margaret Jewson had a close game to the 17th end, with the score being 12-all.
Then Jewson took five of the next six ends to win 25 shots to 14.
Murray Valley will be represented at the regional finals by Jewson who won the final on a forfeit from Devereux.
The Murray Mallee regional finals will be held at Tooleybuc on March 2 from 9.30am.
