GREG O'Bree, off the luxury handicap of 24, scored 92 off the beater and took out the Murray Downs January Monthly Medal.
His nett score of 68 enabled him to win the prestigious competition by one shot.
Played off the black tees in warm, humid conditions, it was a long day at the office for most of the competitors in the field of 98 players.
O'Bree hasn't been seen a lot in recent times as his physiotherapy work keeps him well occupied but he has a lot of golfing ability.
Previously he has performed well in four ball events with partner Chris Fordham.
The pair often regularly entered state-wide events such as the Herald Sun Knockout and were prepared to travel to distant courses to gain experience.
It certainly hasn't done their golf games any harm.
Gary Bailey claimed A grade with 77-8-69, an effort that probably matched expectations as he is a former Northern District Golf Association championship winner and hails from the Sea Lake district.
The chaser in this grade was Neville Brady, competing right to the wire with 74-3-71.
Has Neville secret intentions of becoming a scratch golfer?
B grade was a contest between the golfing Elliotts with Brian, 83-12-71, getting the nod ahead of Matt, 85-12-73.
In C grade, Shane Garner a visitor from Brighton Golf Club, slotted in 95-24-71, to finish three strokes short of the winning medallist who came from this grade.
In doing so, he deprived Terry Elliott of Nandaly Golf Club a podium finish with 95-22-73.
The captain Stewie McLean had a fair day out with 77-6-71.
Close, but no cigar, Stewie.
Watch out for the multi-golfer of the year, Ross Kenyon who wasn't far away with 82-8-74.
He must have picked up points.
I thought the top 22 players in A grade had a really classy look and they all broke 80 nett.
There are a few red lights about to turn green in B grade and they include Vin Foott, 85-12-73, Mick Kiley, 86-13-73, Terry McEwan, 90-15-75 and Phil Tennant, 86-11-75.
