SWAN Hill police have responded to plenty of traffic and family violence offences over the Christmas/New Year period.
Sergeant Robin McDonald said police had been busy over the holiday season, with domestic violence cases taking up a majority of their time.
"Domestic violence assaults are keeping us fairly busy, varying from verbal arguments to serious assaults with weapons," Sgt McDonald said.
Sgt McDonald said increased consumption of alcohol was a factor in the increased assaults over the past month.
"Families are coming back together over Christmas, but it's generally increased consumption of alcohol that is inciting family violence and other related offences," he said.
Sgt McDonald said there had been "the usual steady flow of traffic work" with increased tourism bringing more motorists during the season.
"Increased volume of traffic brings increased poor driver behaviour," he said.
"Police are pretty happy with the majority, but there are still people out there committing offences."
Meanwhile, Sgt McDonald reminded drivers that the summer holiday season was still in full swing and to remain vigilant on the roads.
"People are returning home from trips away, be mindful of the holiday season in Victoria and increased traffic risk," he said.
"People should just bear that in mind with their family and other drivers in mind."
